Calamus Reservoir State Recreation Area

Calamus Reservoir near Burwell, NE

Set in the heart of the Nebraska Sandhills, Calamus State Recreation Area is one of the state's most popular spots for getting outside. The centerpiece is a sprawling 5,123 acre lake wrapped by nearly 5,000 acres of rolling, grass covered hills, with the Calamus River winding through the area. It's a full day kind of place, built for boating, fishing, swimming, picnicking, and simply soaking up wide open water and even wider skies.

Anglers come for walleye, white bass, catfish, and more, while families spread out among the beaches, playgrounds, and shaded picnic areas. There's even a fish hatchery below the dam with self guided tours, a fun and unexpected stop. For a livelier day, local outfitters run tubing, kayaking, and classic Sandhills tanking floats down the river.

This is exactly the kind of outing where a shuttle earns its keep. Float the river, enjoy a few hours on the water, and let us handle the driving so nobody in your group has to. Round everyone up, and we'll get you there and back with the scenery doing all the work.
